'Assorted Drone Music' is a collection of improvisations recorded in April 2020. During the period of social isolation, I fell into the habit of recording myself improvising on the trumpet for about 2 to 4 minutes every day. I sent some of these to friends around the world to play over with no direction, and was deeply moved by the responses. To me this music reflects some of the beautiful contradictions of isolation; the joy of human connection and the pain of loneliness; the beauty of stillness; the versatility of frozen spinach; the erasure of distance; the terror of looking out at the ocean at night; how differently driftwood appears in the moonlight; the smell of lavender.
